Who and Why

The Boxer CUR pages are maintained by Fred and Kathy Isler.
Kathy created the Boxer CUR pages because
she saw the need for a public listing of Boxer CUR
volunteers. She hoped that this roster could
be used to help organize CUR runs, and so far
<?php echo $vols; ?> families
from all over the United States and Canada
are listed here as Boxer CUR volunteers.

Fred took Kathy's concept and created the database and programming to
make Boxer CUR a "self service" site.

The Boxer CUR pages are built around a MySQL database:

Volunteers may

       create, update, and delete
       their own records

Database searches
enable a CUR run organizer to retrieve organized
pages of volunteer information based on:

Location -- region, state/province, city

Driving distance -- how far a volunteer
              can drive

Availability -- days of the week volunteers
              can drive

Foster-ability -- whether or not volunteers can
also provide a temporary foster home for boxers

How and Where

<!--

Kathy uses
Microsoft Front
Page to maintain the Boxer CUR pages.
She used
Microsoft Image Composer,
LView Pro, and freeware
programs to create background, bar and button graphics.

Fred did the database design,

SQL, and
CGI / scripting. He used

Javascript for validating forms data and
Perl for sending
data to Boxer CUR's
MySQL
database and returning
search results. Up-to-date
volunteer statistics are queried from the database and dynamically built into pages like
this one using PHP, the Hypertext
Preprocessor.

and
Procmail for email autoresponders.
